HTML to Markdown · last updated October 16, 2026
The short version
HTML to Markdown does not collect, store, sell or share your personal data. Pages are converted to Markdown on your device, and nothing you convert is sent anywhere.
What the extension does with a page
When you click the toolbar icon, a context menu item or press Alt+M, the extension reads the current tab and turns it into Markdown inside your browser. The result goes only where you put it: your clipboard or a .md file you download. The extension makes no network requests.
Permissions and why we need them
- activeTab — temporary access to the tab you are on, only after your click or shortcut.
- scripting — runs the extension's own bundled script in that tab to read the page.
- contextMenus — adds the right-click items for the page, a selection and a link.
- clipboardWrite — copies the Markdown when you press Copy.
- storage — remembers two settings on your device: Article or Full page mode and the front matter toggle. No page content is stored.
Our web pages
The welcome, uninstall and feedback pages on html-to-markdown.evasoft.pro use Rybbit, a privacy-friendly analytics tool we host ourselves. It counts visits without cookies and without personal data; it may keep an anonymous identifier in your browser's local storage. The extension itself contains no analytics.
If you answer the short survey on the uninstall or feedback page, your answer is saved in Google Forms. We do not ask for your name or email there.
Children
The extension is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect any data from anyone.
